On rainy days or if you have had your successful hunt but want to stick around, some of our guests have gone exploring the area in search of food, shopping, or entertainment.
Right outside the exterior building is a 60-yard archery range out back for hunters to get themselves prepared for the hunt. We encourage all of our guests to practice shooting as often as possible before your deer hunt, including once you get here.
We also have equipment, including a bow press, and Jason can often help with adjustments and repairs. We encourage guests to discuss any challenges they may be having with their equipment so that resolutions can be found before the hunt.
At the day’s end, our guests come back to a warm lodge, and the smell of a home cooked meal. Every night we have a salad bar, as well as an ample buffet of delicious meat, vegetables, and always hot rolls and butter. For those who leave room for it, there’s always some sort of sweet treat to cap off the night. And again, coffee pot is always ready to go.
If our guests want to bring any snacks or food from home, we encourage it, and will make room for it. We also do not provide alcoholic beverages for our guests, but we welcome hunters to bring their favorites in coolers with ice.
Every morning, a hot hearty breakfast will be on the table one hour before the earliest departure time (this varies from week to week). There will also be oatmeal, cereal, toast, fruit, etc. available at any time, and the coffee pot is almost always brewing.
Each hunter will get a bagged lunch with two sandwiches and a couple of homemade snacks, which vary from day to day. Bottled waters and sports drinks will be available, and we encourage guests to bring their own favorites if you prefer.
The best part of the lodge is gathering around the table twice a day over a family style meal to discuss the day’s hunt. Here you will hear stories old and new, from all walks of life who come together at the Flint Ridge Outfitters Hunting Lodge.
We have a few interesting restaurants in town, including Russo’s Woodfired Pizza, Urban Comforts, and amazing local ice cream at Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl. Zanesville commercial area boasts almost any chain restaurant you can think of, including Cracker Barrel, Olive Garden, and Applebee’s.
If you like antiques, pottery, and art, Zanesville is home to all three and there are many galleries and stores in the area. If you like to learn and want to go play for a day, Columbus has a really cool Center of Science and Industry. Hands on Science Museum and Planetarium which has exhibits on machines, dinosaurs, and planets.
If you need or want hunting clothing or equipment, Cabela’s in Wheeling, WV is your place. This is a 17,000 square foot store with everything you could possibly need for the outdoors. There’s also a small casino on Wheeling Island if you want to press your luck.
If you prefer to stay outdoors, you can get out and hike or mountain bike in the woods, at nearby Dillon State Park, over 2,000 acres of various trails from paved beginner trails, to more moderate trails. There’s also a disc golf course and tennis courts available.
For common areas, we have a dining room that seats 14, a living room with Cable TV available in the main house, as well as a heated/air conditioned exterior building with couches and a TV, refrigerator, and a table & chairs. It’s where our hunters gear up and down every morning and evening, and it is a great space to relax and watch sports or play a card game.
This is where our guests keep all of their hunting gear locked up and ready to go each day. Each hunter has his own hook and can create his own home base.
We have convenient access to all of the retail establishments you may need to pick up any last minute items, yet the lodge itself is nestled into the country atmosphere. For essentials and last minute items, we usually direct guest over to Maple Avenue, in Zanesville. Here, you will find Kroger, Aldi, Walmart, Dunham’s Sports, CVS, etc. For archery or hunting related needs, we are also in close proximity (20 miles) to Vance Outdoors, in Hebron, OH.
